Price outraged guest – expensive espresso: police punish cafe owner

Date:

Two euros was too much for a guest in a cafe in Florence. The owner was fined – but not because of the “high” price.

For an espresso – the national drink so to speak – you pay one euro in many places in Italy. But in the Florentine restaurant Ditta Artigianale, a guest now has to pay twice as much. The man was so annoyed at what he thought was an exorbitant price that he complained.

Carabinieri fines cafe owners
After a heated verbal argument with the barista, the customer finally alerted the carabinieri. The officers even fined the cafe owner of 1000 euros. But not because of the price, but because it was nowhere to be seen. However, the bars in Italy are obliged to do this.

Local owner Francesco Sanapo is outraged that the price of the professionally prepared coffee was accessible via a QR code on the digital menu: “The idea that our guest walks around proudly and thinks that he has done justice does not suit me at all!” moreover, the decaf coffee served came from a small plantation in Chiapas, Mexico. “And quality has its price,” says Sanapo.
