Once again disastrous conditions were discovered on a manure farm in Lower Austria. Photos published by the Association Against Animal Factories (VGT) show, among other things, a seriously injured and sick calf, part of which “has to live on piles of feces”.
This time it concerns a cattle farm in the Wiener Neustadt district. According to VGT, the recordings were made at the end of October to the beginning of November. You see a completely dirty stable with feces on the floor that is pushed through the cracks into the manure tank.
“Calf igloos too small”
The dairy cows and their calves also sometimes have to ‘live on piles of excrement’ or are ‘housed in calf igloos that are too small’, causing the animals to ‘bum into each other’. According to activists, a cow was bleeding from his nose.
Complaint against manure operations
According to the activists, there is no room for the animals to run. The VGT has filed a complaint against the company. Once again the call was heard for an end to the fully slatted floor.
Like on a “dung heap”
This form of husbandry puts a strain on the animals’ joints and is absolutely not species-specific. They are on litter-free, fully slatted floors in an enclosed area.
“Columns with sharp edges”
“There are approximately 200,000 fattening cattle in Lower Austria, including more than 150,000 bulls, the majority of which have to live on fully concrete slatted floors with sharp-edged slats without straw bedding. The animals are only given enough space that suits their body size,” explains VGT chairman Martin Balluch.
