The communist government in Cuba increases the price of gasoline fivefold. The price of gasoline with an octane number of 94 will increase from 30 to 156 pesos (5.95 euros) per liter on February 1.
This should guarantee the fuel supply. According to Finance Minister Vladimir Regueiro, among others, prices for other types of gasoline and diesel will be increased in a similar manner.
Price increase varies depending on the variety
The price increases are part of a comprehensive package of measures, the details of which have yet to be presented. The government in Havana wants to combat the budget deficit and raise money to import essential goods.

In addition, 29 gas stations would be opened across the country that would sell gasoline only for dollars. This was intended to generate urgently needed foreign exchange for the purchase of fuel on the international market.
