In the case of a schoolboy who shot and seriously injured his teacher at an American elementary school, the boy’s mother was sentenced to prison. A court in the American state of Virginia imposed a 21-month prison sentence on Wednesday because the woman had, among other things, lied about her marijuana use when purchasing the murder weapon. The twenty-year-old had previously pleaded guilty.
Early in the year, the boy took the gun to school in Newport News and shot his teacher in the chest.
The 25-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries. No one was injured except her.
The teacher demanded millions in damages
According to police, the teacher managed to get all the students out of the classroom. She later sued the school for millions of dollars in damages in a civil lawsuit. The process is still ongoing.
According to the Washington Post, the mother of the now seven-year-old boy is also accused by the prosecutor of neglecting her child. Sentencing on this charge is expected in December.
School incidents involving such young shooters are also rare in the United States. The events in Newport News underscore the ongoing threat of gun violence in schools across the United States.
