Police officers in full riot gear jogged next to a tram on line 43 on Friday afternoon. The reason for the unusual scenes were passengers from the right-wing spectrum who had previously taken part in an event at the University of Vienna. Counter-protesters then tried to block the Bim. There had been unrest before and the police had to intervene several times.
As reported, a group of about 60 fraternities, identities and other people from the right-wing spectrum gathered in front of the University of Vienna on Friday afternoon. The right-wing German publisher and publicist Götz Kubitschek acted as speaker. About 200 counter-protesters also gathered.
As Kubitschek and other rally participants crossed the busy ring before the official start of the event, the group was surrounded by counter-protesters and physically attacked. However, the police were able to quickly stop the attack. The ring was then closed for about two hours.

After the rally, some participants wanted to leave the event by tram and got on line 43 at Schottentor. Counter-demonstrators then blocked the Bim.

As a spokeswoman for Wiener Linien reported to krone.at, some passengers who had nothing to do with the two groups left the train.
Set travel as a special train
To allow the tram to move forward, officials initially lifted the blockage. It was then decided to guide the train on foot to the Lange Gasse/Spitalgasse intersection. Due to the situation, the Wiener Linien ran the tram as a special train. However, “no separate tram” was definitely organized for the participants of the right-wing event, the spokeswoman for Wiener Linien emphasized.
“An officer was pushed against a barrier and was injured,” police spokesman Markus Dittrich said. A total of six criminal and four administrative charges have been filed. One person was arrested for resisting state authority.
