An observant passerby made a worrying discovery on Vienna’s Danube Island on Sunday afternoon: he discovered the identity card and items of clothing of a person on the banks of the Danube. The result was a major operation, including helicopters and divers. No one has been found yet and the investigation is ongoing.
As police spokesman Markus Dittrich reported to krone.at, the observant passerby dropped off the IDs and items of clothing at a police station. Shortly afterwards, a major search was launched at the spot on Danube Island where he had found the items.
In addition to the fire brigade and rescue efforts, a police helicopter, an ÖAMTC helicopter and divers were also present. “The search has now been stopped. No one was found,” Dittrich said.
The police are now investigating. All that is known so far is that the wanted person has not been reported missing.
