The Ukrainian army says it has again repelled numerous Russian attacks on the southern and eastern fronts. The current focus of the fighting is in the towns of Maryinka and Avdiivka, close to the Russian-controlled Donbass capital Donetsk. The military information could not immediately be verified.
However, international observers such as the Institute for War Studies in the USA (ISW) confirmed the heavy fighting around Avdiivka. Russian troops have been trying to encircle Ukrainian defenders in the city for weeks. After two nights of heavy Russian air raids, things would remain quiet on Monday evening.
Advance to Kherson?
According to its own statements and international observations, the Ukrainian army is currently making progress in the Kherson region. “The armed forces continue to take positions on the left bank of the Dnipro in the Kherson region,” the General Staff said on Sunday evening. From Moscow, the frontline report sounds very different (see video above).
Kherson in southern Ukraine was largely occupied shortly after the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022. In November last year, the army managed to liberate parts of the area on the right bank of the river. The locations on the left are still occupied.
Drone war unsuccessful
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s drone war against Russia appears to be less successful. According to Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, a drone approaching Moscow was intercepted. There was no damage or casualties, he reported.
The war in Ukraine began in February 2022. The British Ministry of Defense said the wet autumn weather is currently making it difficult for both sides to fight.
