Four nurses from the US state of Missouri were visiting the Eisriesenwelt in Salzburg’swerfen when a man collapsed. Without thinking twice, they resuscitated the excursionist in the eternal ice.
The four nurses Rachel, Meg, Fallon and Angelique normally care for young patients for a living. In the hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, the friends are used to being part of the life and death struggle. None of the women could have even imagined that their medical skills would be needed during their European vacation.
It is unclear exactly when the incident took place. However, Children’s Mercy Hospital of Kansas City posted a photo of the four tourists a few days ago.
The young women were apparently on a tour of the Yard’s ice caves when – as one of the women now says – a man crouched on the ground a few feet in front of her and struggled to breathe. She immediately called her friends for help: together the quartet managed to revive the tourist, who had reportedly lost consciousness. This continued until cave guides were able to obtain a defibrillator.
“In the right place at the right time”
With success, as the employer of the courageous women announced. According to the hospital, the man’s daughter contacted one of the nurses. Her father survived the heart attack because they responded so quickly. “We were just in the right place at the right time,” the women remain modest despite their heroic act.
