The American computer company Apple recently launched the third generation of its Macbook Pro models with an in-house developed main processor. The TSMC-made M3 processor promises even more power with lower consumption than previous ARM-based Apple silicon chips. Is that correct? We tried it out – and pitted the new M3 MacBook against a full-fledged high-end PC.
It’s an unequal match. In a corner of the ring: Apple’s new Macbook Pro in the 14.2-inch version weighing 1.55 kilos and an M3 octa-core chip manufactured by TSMC using a 3-nanometer process with a clock speed of up to 3.2 gigahertz. In the other corner: a water-cooled gaming PC monster that is ten times as heavy, whose 16-core Intel Core i9-12900K processor runs up to 5.2 gigahertz in turbo mode. Can Apple’s 70-watt laptop keep up? We tried it out – and were amazed.
