The first video footage of workers waiting for 10 days in a collapsed highway tunnel has been published in India. They have now received their first hot meal: a rice and lentil dish sent to the men in bottles through a newly drilled tube.
Until now, the captive men were only connected to the outside world through a very narrow pipe, through which they could obtain dried fruit and water. In the coming days, workers will also receive mobile phones and chargers, local television station NDTV reported.
The first video recordings of workers trapped in a collapsed highway tunnel for ten days have now been published. The images come from a camera that was sent to the 41 men through a tube. The photos show them wearing helmets. They communicate via walkie-talkie.

Families relieved
“If you’re okay, come in front of the camera,” a rescue worker asked. “You all get on camera.” The video recordings come as a relief to the families of the affected workers.
As reported, the highway tunnel under construction partially collapsed after a landslide on November 12. The 4.5 kilometer long connection will be constructed near the town of Uttarkashi in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. This is a region with many Hindu temples that attracts pilgrims.
