Getting rid of “s***” – Revealed: Prigozhin had big plans before the uprising

Date:

Newly surfaced information offers new insights into the attempted coup by the ex-head of Russia’s infamous Wagner mercenary force, Yevgeny Prigozhin. A day before the scandal, he is said to have tried to find a less scandalous solution to the burning problems at the front.

“Smelly creatures” was probably an even more innocent expression for the way “Putin’s chef” berated the Kremlin for the disastrous situation at the front in Ukraine. There was no change after the angry speeches, peppered with expletives – apart from the fact that Prigozhin had a serious misunderstanding with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Even in offices where the doors were always open to him, he was denied access, reports the English-language internet newspaper ‘The Moscow Times’, citing anonymous sources in the State Duma, the head of the ‘Fair Russia’ party and an acquaintance of the soldier who died in a plane crash in August.

Looking for a conversation with the lord of the Kremlin
After his rebellious behavior was unsuccessful, Prigozhin is said to have tried to get back on good terms with the Kremlin boss. The solution was a speech at a round table in the Duma, organized by the Fair Russia party, which at the time had great sympathy for the Wagner mercenaries.

The summit is said to have taken place the day before the coup. During the event, Prigozhin should have had the opportunity to address all the things that went wrong in the war in Ukraine. He should also have “honestly shown” how many casualties there actually were among his own fighters – that is, “the whole lot,” said Prigozhin’s acquaintance.

Planned shock scandal
“Prigozhin needed a respected, official platform with a weapon,” a source close to the State Duma revealed. The plan provided that the mercenary chief’s speech would land directly on Putin’s table, without embellishment. That would have been a big scandal. Everything was already arranged. But the day before the meeting, the Wagner boss simply canceled his participation without explanation.

Mutiny resulting in death
Instead, things only got worse for the Kremlin. Prigozhin finally lost his cool on the evening of June 23 and attempted a coup. His mercenaries marched into the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don without resistance. Some of the soldiers headed towards Moscow and destroyed several planes and helicopters of the Russian Defense Ministry, with which the Wagner boss was at odds. The next day the mutiny was declared over. Exactly two months later, on August 23, Prigozhin died in an aircraft tragedy. To this day, much remains unclear.
