From this weekend it will be considerably colder in Vorarlberg. The snowfall line is expected to drop to 300 meters.
The thick winter coat must be taken out of the cellar now at the latest, because it is getting cold in the country! Geosphere Austria also expects snowfall in large parts of the country. It should be white everywhere, even in the Rhine Valley and Lake Constance. However, much snow can only be expected from about 800 meters. “The focus of the snowfall is in the lower Bregenzerwald, the Kleinwalsertal and in the Arlberg region. About 60 to 80 centimeters of new snow can be expected here on Sunday,” says meteorologist Simon Hölzl (ZAMG).
Strong wind increases the cold
The cold front will move over Austria from the north today. As the day progresses, the focus of precipitation shifts to the northern reservoirs between Vorarlberg and the Mostviertel. “Sometimes there are strong winds, which causes transport in the mountains,” Hölzl warns. Therefore, the conditions on the ski slopes are quite unfavorable. “Due to cloud cover and snowfall, visibility is not good and it also becomes very cold.” While 2 degrees were measured yesterday at Galzig in St. Anton, these values are expected to drop to minus 10 degrees tomorrow. The wind makes the cold even worse.
What will the weather be like at Christmas?
Simon Hölzl does not predict a long life for the snow in the valley, as there will be mild plus temperatures and snow in the second half of the week. At higher altitudes you can enjoy the white splendor for longer. November ends cool and wet and the first week of December also begins in this key. After that it should become milder again. The experts cannot yet say whether the typical thaw will occur again at Christmas.
