Calendar makers have been producing appointment planners for 100 years. And even though the smartphone caused pocket calendar sales to collapse somewhat, desk calendars are still very popular. That is typically Austrian, says calendar maker Julie Stein Schaden.
Desk and pocket calendars, notebooks: the calendar makers have been around for 100 years. And even the smartphone couldn’t reduce sales in the long term. “Pocket calendars are selling worse, but sales of desk calendars have remained high,” says Julie Stein Schaden, whose great-great-grandmother founded the company in 1923. That is something typically Austrian. The desk calendar gives a feeling of security and always has a permanent place in the apartment.
Sales take place with calendars
Calendar makers produce ten million calendars and notebooks every year. They make 85 percent of their turnover with the first. “The notebooks that we have had in our range since 2017 are very important to us because sales of the calendars will certainly not increase,” says Stein Schaden.
Innovation and sustainability
That is why we rely on innovation. New in the range is laser engraving of personal statements or photos. Sustainability is also a point of attention. The paper used is 100 percent recycled and the boxes are used in new ways with cardboard.
The high season is between May and November. And that will remain the case in the future, because the calendars are very popular in Austria
