Valencia coach Rubén Baraja pointed out after the goalless draw against Celta de Vigo that, although they will always be looking to win, added the “positive” because “that is the goal” of his team.
“I like the attitude of the team, they gave themselves and they gave everything, although it didn’t give them a chance to win, but keeping a clean sheet is always positive and gives us confidence. If we are strong at the back we always have a chance to win the games and if we fight like this we can face any team,” he expressed at a press conference.
“The fans did not see a good match in terms of what we expected, we wanted to have more clarity and fluidity on the ball, but we have a well-worked team in front of us, very closed and that didn’t allow us to turn around. What we expected was to win the game, but Celta did a great job,” he said.
“We have to draw positive conclusions, it is one more point. We tried to win, no one can blame the players. We are imprecise and hasty, but it is not easy to attack a team that puts too much pressure on you and I think is in an unworthy situation on the table in terms of playing,” he analyzed.
“If you don’t win, the addition is always positive, which is the objective. When you come from a result as negative as at the Bernabéu, the most important thing is not to lose again. “I want to look up, have ambition, but it’s a very difficult game,” he added.
Regarding the return of his former coach Rafa Benítez, Baraja said: “We spoke after the game which he considered a fair draw, he was excited to return to the Mestalla and what he felt was exciting.”
“He gave us so much… He made us win titles and he felt at home. He is a person who does not express himself very much, but he felt a great feeling to see how a place you have been to after a long time recognizes your work. It is deserved, the Mestalla fans don’t give you anything, they are very fair and they deserved it without a doubt,” he concluded.
