Benjamin R. has a very special passion in Ebreichsdorf, Baden district. Because while other boys his age devote themselves to computer games or chasing round leather, the nine-year-old is concerned with waste – and not with producing waste.
Quite the opposite. Benjamin’s big hobby is waste processing. The boy does not limit his interest to theory. “No, he sets a good example,” says city manager Wolfgang Kocevar, full of praise for his young fellow citizen.
A real “eco-role model”
Benjamin collects litter lying around during his walks through Ebreichsdorf and then ensures that it is disposed of properly. “If everyone were to follow Benjamin’s example and carelessly throw discarded waste into the nearest garbage bin, it would be a huge contribution to protecting the environment and a clean city,” Kocevar emphasizes.
And Benjamin’s efforts should no longer go unrewarded. For his birthday, the mayor and Herbert Ferschitz, director of the waste association, presented themselves with a special gift: the nine-year-old was allowed to go on a special excursion to the large waste transfer station in Traiskirchen, where he received exciting insights into professional waste management – and the local employees were with him impressed by his detailed specialist knowledge. Summary of the young eco-pioneer: “It was a really exciting day”
