Israel has received a list of the names of other hostages to be released this Monday. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced this early this morning. The list received during the night is checked. It was not disclosed how many hostages might be released on the final day of the agreed four-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
According to unconfirmed media reports, eleven people were involved. Islamist Hamas in Gaza also confirmed that it had handed over a list of hostages to be released on Monday to representatives of Qatar and Egypt. Both states mediate in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
58 Israeli hostages ‘exchanged’ for 177 Palestinians
It would be the fourth group of hostages to be released since the ceasefire began on Friday in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons. So far, 58 hostages have been released, including eight with dual German nationality. In exchange for the freed hostages, 177 Palestinians were released from prison.
180 hostages are still in the hands of Hamas
There is hope that the ceasefire will be extended. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu indicated on Sunday that he is willing to do so. Accordingly, the agreement with Hamas provides for the possibility of extending the pause in the fighting in exchange for the release of an additional ten hostages per day. Another 180 hostages are said to still be in the hands of their captors. Hamas also says it wants an extension.
