While trying to escape from the police, a man jumped into the freezing Salzach on Sunday. He was resuscitated on the spot. He died on Sunday evening at the University Hospital of Salzburg.
They were scenes that looked like something out of a movie that took place in Salzburg on Sunday afternoon. A man had previously fled Bavarian state police in Germany, abandoned his stolen car near Tenneck, rammed a police vehicle and fled on foot. Finally he decided to jump into the icy Salzach and swim to the other bank. Emergency services pulled him unconscious from the water and resuscitated the man.
Background still unclear
The twenty-year-old Albanian paid for his escape from the police with his life. He died on Sunday evening at the University Hospital of Salzburg. The background to his escape is under investigation and the Salzburg public prosecutor’s office has ordered an autopsy.
