On Wednesday evening there was a fire in the stairwell of an apartment building in the Graz-Lend district. The fire brigade brought eight people from the smoke-filled building to safety.
It is a classic in apartment buildings: nothing is actually allowed to be stored in the stairwells and corridors, but this is often ignored. Such improperly stored objects in the Grüne Gasse in Graz-Lend have now made it more difficult for the professional fire brigades to operate.
On Wednesday night there was a fire in the hallway area and in the stairwell in the converted attic. When emergency services arrived, this room was already heavily smoked. The fire was quickly extinguished. As a precaution, the eight residents of the affected floor were evacuated, some with fire escape hoods.
After the extinguishing and ventilation work was completed, the four affected apartments were checked for possible flue gases before residents were allowed to return to their rooms. The professional fire brigade was present with five vehicles and 23 men.
