Iran used a drone to track a US aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf. According to the U.S. Navy, the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower was in international waters in the Strait of Hormuz when the aircraft came within 5,000 feet.
The United States on Wednesday condemned the Iranian drone flight, images of which Iran broadcast on state television (video above), near the aircraft carrier as “unsafe” and “unprofessional.” The incident in international waters on Tuesday violated a “Notice to Airmen” that requires aircraft to stay more than 10 nautical miles (about 18.5 kilometers) away, Vice Adm. Brad Cooper said in a statement.
“Unprofessional, irresponsible behavior”
“This unsafe, unprofessional, and irresponsible behavior by Iran endangers the lives of the United States and its partner countries and must stop immediately,” said Cooper, who commands U.S. naval forces in the Middle East. “U.S. Naval Forces remain vigilant and will continue to fly, sail and operate wherever international law allows,” he added.
US forces in Iraq and Syria have been repeatedly attacked with drones and missiles in recent weeks. According to the US, dozens of people were injured in the attacks.
