Historic event – Scandal politician Santos expelled from the US parliament

Date:

Republican George Santos was expelled from the US House of Representatives in Washington DC on Friday. The voice against the 35-year-old New Yorker was clear. It was the third attempt to remove the politician from parliament.

For the sixth time in American history, a politician was expelled from the US parliament. The scandalous MP was removed from office by a clear two-thirds majority (311 yes votes). This is special because in the US the warring parties can hardly agree on anything.

Many Republicans in the House went against the recommendation of the party leadership and voted with the Democrats. Because the allegations against the eccentric Trump supporter are serious.

A CV as a lie
Santos was elected to the House of Representatives in last year’s midterm elections. As a result, new revelations continued to emerge about the politician’s sometimes scandalous false statements. He allegedly provided false information about his higher education, his career, his family and his religion.

“Speaker” Mike Johnson announces Santos’ expulsion:

Santos claimed to have a degree from an elite university and a successful collegiate volleyball career, and falsely claimed to have worked for the investment bank Goldman Sachs and the banking group Citigroup.

Enriched by campaign donations?
In May, Santos was charged by the federal judiciary with charges including fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds and making false statements to the House of Representatives. In October, the charges were expanded to include identity theft in connection with the theft of campaign funds. The deputy pleaded not guilty in court.

The House Ethics Committee also made serious accusations against Santos. The MP stole campaign funds and defrauded his donors, among other things, according to an investigative report published in mid-November. The politician violated ‘the dignity of office’ with his behavior.

The consequences for Republicans are serious. They only have a wafer-thin majority in the House of Representatives. Therefore, they depend on every vote. Santos also won a district in a region effectively dominated by President Joe Biden’s Democrats. By-elections for the vacant seat will be held in February.
