Two Gerlos Red Cross employees are connected by what happened exactly 18 years ago. It all started when local branch manager Christian Münnich wanted to take a heavily pregnant local woman to the hospital in Schwaz. . .
“Yes, she was practically born with Red Cross activities,” smiles Christian Münnich, a former Zillertal Red Cross man… December 2005: The local Red Cross team celebrates a little one in restaurant Gerlos by Josef Kupfner and the heavily pregnant Daniela Schützer Christmas party. When saying goodbye, Christian Münnich had no idea that he would see the hostess again the next day, on December 4 at 8:20 am – severe contractions had begun, emergency call to the rescue control center!
Civil servant Leo Hauser quickly leaves the valley towards the Schwaz hospital. But little Anna doesn’t feel like waiting all the way to the hospital – stop in Hainzenberg, the ambulance has to go to the delivery room on the main road!
Birth in Hainzenberg on the national highway
“Fortunately, I had only completed a midwifery course two weeks earlier,” Münnich still remembers. Armed with this knowledge, he ensures that Anna is born healthy and that her mother is also doing well. The emergency doctor called arrives too late and fortunately hears the cries of the healthy baby. Afterwards, Daniela praised the Red Cross team effusively: “I never had the feeling that anything could go wrong.”
The former baby became a young woman and in the band she started talking to Christian again. “I then went to take a look at the local location,” says the full-time waitress. On September 22, she promptly successfully completed her paramedic training. The fact that the team received a particularly warm welcome is not only due to its special background.
First “real” service on Monday – with Christian!
So far, Anna was the third intern to drive the rescue car. From her 18th birthday tomorrow, December 4, she can now officially care for patients. She is on the roster – how could it be otherwise – together with her midwife Christian.
