Wagenknecht Alliance – BSW party wants to obtain a seat in the Bundestag soon

Date:

In Germany the Left Party has collapsed. The uprising within the party was led by Sahra Wagenknecht. Your newly founded party BSW (Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht) wants to form its own faction in the German Bundestag next week.

On December 12, the BSW will be properly constituted in the Bundestag and then apply for group status, a spokeswoman said on Monday at the request of the German news agency.

Wagenknecht and her nine fellow activists left the ‘Left’ party in October. Therefore, the previous left-wing group, which currently had 38 members, will dissolve on December 6.

A new beginning for the political left
The remaining 28 left-wing MPs have already submitted an application to form their own group and hope for quick recognition by the Bundestag. What is needed is a plenary resolution establishing the rights of a new group in parliamentary operations.

A faction has fewer parliamentary rights than a parliamentary group, for example when asking questions to the German government. And it receives less financial support from the state treasury. It remains to be seen whether the Bundestag will decide on both groups in parallel. It is also unclear how the two groups will be placed in the plenary hall in the future.

Many have lost their jobs
With the dissolution of the left-wing faction, 108 employees will lose their jobs, for example political speakers or office workers. How many of them will be employed by the new groups in the future also depends on their financial resources. It probably won’t be all of them.
