High expectations and great expectations follow the despair in the nursing crisis. In the Waldviertel in Lower Austria you cling to three young women from Vietnam, who have to complete their training year in the Raabs nursing home and stay there as trained troops. Scenes from the country as a symbol of how great the need really is.
The “krone” report made high waves that nearly 200 nursing beds in Lower Austria should stay for free a few weeks ago. Lack of staff is in almost all parts of the country, the Waldviertel is definitely a crisis region, where 69 beds are “blocked” because of fewer nurses.
In the nursing and care center (PBZ) Raabs on the Thaya, only 16 beds are blocked. A month ago, the three Vietnamese Thi Tuong VI Pham (“VI”), Thi Phuong Thao Nguyen (“Thao”) and Thi Phuong Tran (“Phuong”) competed. They are part of the 75 potential nurses in the “International Nursing Center”, which was launched in collaboration with the University of Hanoi, the IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems and the state of Lower Austria to illuminate the shortage of trained employees.
Six nurses miss 16 beds
The young people were not only linguistically, but also culturally and professionally for a career in the nursing sector in Austria. The goal is to permanently win them for long -term care. Because to be able to prove the 16 beds in Raabs again, at least five nursing assistants and a qualified caregiver are missing.
The entire region is now aware that nurses who are urgently needed for the ever aging population, the mayor of Raabs Franz Fischer emphasizes. As a sign of appreciation and hope that are placed in the “imported” specialists, he invited them as a greeting for the city office. At Linzer Stangerl and Gugelhupf they had a good time that he had already told the women about the city a lot, says Fischer.
Damocles Sword hangs over the region
“The women are already speaking German relatively well. You still have to learn the Waldviertel -dialect,” the city manager puts large pieces about the fact that you are preserved after the training year. Because there will also be many employees in the coming years, which hangs over the district and the entire Waldviertel as a sword of Damocles.
In the nursing home itself, people also try a lot for future hope. The Beate Zeilinger employment council ensures that the women can get a foothold in Raab and network in the region. Monika Mayrhofer, a commercial director of the PBZ, is impressed by the motivation of the Vietnamese: “We have already experienced this willingness from our cleaning staff from Ukraine and Syria. Our residents are enthusiastic about passing the Waldviertel -Dialect,” she says optimistically.
Further reinforcements in July
Three other trainees are expected in July. You will decide for yourself whether the women will stay after training or not. Hope is great. And you put a lot of effort into the city that the Vietnamese get to know and appreciate the Waldviertel region.
