During drug checks, police officers arrested a 29-year-old suspect in Graz-Lend on Tuesday afternoon. He threw a bag of narcotics into the Mühlgang, shortly afterwards a police officer fell into the water – the fire brigade had to go outside.
Shortly before noon, Graz police officers carried out checks in the Volksgarten Park. A 29-year-old Afghan from Graz suddenly fled.
Shortly before police arrested the man in the middle bridge section of the park, the 29-year-old threw his shoulder bag into the mill there. While one officer held the man, the second tried to pull the discarded bag out of the water with garbage pliers.
“Caught” in the canal
He slid down the extremely steep bank into the water. After the officer was unable to free himself from the canal, the Graz professional fire brigade was alerted. Finally, she got the unharmed police officer out of the aisle with ropes.
Police eventually found more than 100 grams of drugs in the soaked bag. They took the 29-year-old to the Graz Police Detention Center. There were already several outstanding administrative sanctions against him. The Afghan is reported to the public prosecutor in Graz.
