BBC presenter gives the world the middle finger

Date:

The BBC is usually a source of very serious news. The television audience must have been all the more irritated at noon on Wednesday. Because Maryam Moshiri, the British broadcaster’s main newsreader since this year, stuck her middle finger in the image.

The video clip featuring the wild gesture quickly spread online, causing both confusion and amusement. What happened? Was Moshiri tired of all the bad news? The moderator himself provided clarification.

“Just having a little fun”
She wrote on the platform “When we got there, I jokingly twirled my finger and didn’t know the camera would catch it,” the Iranian-born journalist explained. The gesture and the face she made were only visible for a very short time; Moshiri quickly switched to a neutral stance and looked stern (see below).

It was a “stupid joke” by the team and should not be broadcast live, Moshiri said. “I didn’t mean for this to happen and I’m sorry if I offended anyone. “I didn’t give the finger to the public, let alone a specific person,” she said.

“We have your back”
The X platform often responded to the incident with humor. “We have your back, Maryam. If you have any problems with the countdown, please let us know,” the official report from the British optician chain Specsavers wrote with a wink under Moshiri’s statement.

“If you are tired of the constant negative headlines,” the Eastern European news platform NEXTA responded to the video clip. The special image was only visible for a second, but the internet will probably not forget the incident. Maryam Moshiri’s gesture certainly has meme potential and her Wikipedia entry has already been edited accordingly.
