Three dead – University shooter dismissed as professor

Date:

A day after the shooting at a university in Las Vegas, more and more details are emerging. The suspected shooter is said to be a rejected candidate for a professorship. According to the American police, there is no longer a danger to the population.

Authorities say the shots were fired at the Nevada campus in Las Vegas on Wednesday afternoon (local time) (see video above). At least three people were killed. A fourth victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The suspected attacker was killed during a shootout with police officers. Two officers “immediately” exchanged fire with him, said Adam Garcia, chief of the university police.

University employees shot dead
According to American media, the alleged perpetrator is a 67-year-old academic who had connections to schools in the states of Georgia and North Carolina. He applied for a professorship at the University of Nevada, but was not accepted. The victims are university employees.

A woman told local station KVVU that she heard several loud noises and fled to a building on campus. “I ran into the basement and we sat in the basement for twenty minutes.” The police later ordered that the university building had to remain closed for the time being.

Shooter arrested in Texas
US President Joe Biden was shocked by the latest attack. American gun laws must be tightened, for example there must be a ban on semi-automatic rifles.

Meanwhile, a man was arrested in the US state of Texas for allegedly killing six people. The 34-year-old is accused of opening fire at four different locations in Austin on Tuesday, killing four people and wounding two police officers. He is also suspected of previously killing two people in the city of San Antonio. These are probably his parents.
