Violence in obstetric care is a problem: up to 50 percent of all mothers experience it. The system is to blame, says Lisa Mittischek. The sociologist brought the ‘Rose Revolution’ to Austria in 2014 and gives affected women a platform to report on their traumatic experiences.
The “Rose Revolution” was originally started by a Spanish midwife and culminates annually on November 25 with the laying of roses in front of the doors of delivery rooms and clinics. Mothers who have been victims of violence during the birth of their children bring the flowers and then share photos of them on the internet. Some write their martyrdom by heart.
In some countries, such as our German neighbors, the movement has now become very big. We always work with the same design and according to the motto “Every woman is a rose”. In 2014, sociologist Lisa Mittischek came across the issue of violence in obstetrics and decided to bring the ‘Rose Revolution’ to Austria in the form of a Facebook page.
