A burning candle caused a small fire in a flower shop in Spittal/Drau on Thursday evening. Neighbors alerted the fire brigade in time.
The owner of the store on Edlinger Strasse in Spittal/Drau did not notice the small fire because she was sitting in the back of the store. She lit the candle in the winter garden of her flower shop, amid the Advent decorations. Fortunately, neighbors noticed the fire and immediately alerted emergency services. Because the fire brigade initially assumed that there was an apparently extensive fire, the Spittal/Drau, St. Peter-Spittal and Olsach/Molzbichl fire brigades were alerted. The callers to the state emergency and warning center had talked about a huge fire. That is why the Seeboden fire brigade was also alerted.
Door had to be broken down
When emergency services arrived, it turned out to be a small fire. In order to quickly reach the source of the fire, a door in the exhibition room had to be broken open. The burning Advent decorations on a table could be extinguished with a powder extinguisher. The rapid deployment of the fire brigade probably prevented much greater damage. Four fire brigades with 95 men were deployed.
