The parliamentarian and secretary of ecological transition of EH Bildu, Mikel Oterohas announced that the sovereigntist coalition No will present change of the whole to the project of energy transition law of the Basque government, despite being a “bad text with a lack of ambition and poor content”. He said it is the legislature’s “most important” bill, and not passing it would be “a notable political mistake.” That is why his group will table “many” amendments, but all partially.
In an interview for the Euskadi Irratia program “Faktoria”, Otero admitted that “there are more and more indications about the end of the legislature“, so with regard to the adoption of the law, the deadlines will be very tight; “the groups will have to make a great effort,” he admitted. In this sense, he said that both the PNV and the PSE-EE showed their willingness to go further in the content of the standard, although he has pointed out that these obligations must become reality. “Look what happened to the Education Act. There was an exclusive view towards EH Bildu, to try to take us out of the agreement. That must be left behind,” he said.
Otero believes, on the contrary, that with regard to budgets, the attitude of the groups that make up the Basque government has been similar. In his view, the executive has “not had a major interest in reaching agreements” with the opposition. “We reached a budget agreement two years ago, and this time we have not changed the plan,” he clarified. For example, he accused the PNV and the PSE-EE of a “lack of will to negotiate”, which according to them “are in an electoral key”.
The EH Bildu parliamentarian did not want to advance who that will be the candidate of the coalition faced with the Basque elections, nor if his name will be known on December 17 – the coalition has organized an event to take stock of the year and specify the challenges for the future.
Finally about the territorial problembelieves that Euskal Herria should “work” on this issue regardless of what happens in the recently started Spanish legislature. “The issue of the Basque statute was half-stuck because the PNV decided to keep it in a drawer. It’s time to bring it out. We should reach a minimum agreement to go to Madrid with one vote,” he said. concluded.
