IS supporters arrested – assassination plan against ex-president Bush foiled

Date:

A 52-year-old man from Iraq, who also lived in the US state of Ohio, was arrested Tuesday morning, the US Department of Justice said. The man, who according to US media is a supporter of the terrorist militia of the Islamic State (IS), is said to have planned an assassination attempt on former US President George W. Bush.

According to the ministry, the suspect apparently planned to smuggle more Iraqis into the United States to kill the former president. According to the ministry, he would have traveled to the metropolis of Dallas in the winter to spy on Bush’s home.

Responsible for “destroying all of Iraq”
The 52-year-old is said to have justified his plan by saying Bush was “responsible for the murder of many Iraqis and the destruction of all of Iraq,” CNN quoted court documents as saying. After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, a few months after Bush took office, the United States launched a “war on terror.” The 2003 Iraq War followed the invasion of Afghanistan. Bush remained president until 2009.
