The pilot Sebastián Montoya said on Tuesday that the Monaco circuit is a challenge for him as it is the first time he will compete on a street circuit, in the European Regional Formula (FRECA)and where he seeks to gain the success that his father, Juan Pablo Montoya, put together in 2003 when he was a Williams driver in Formula 1.
“For Monaco, it has been a very special career for me since the success of my father (Juan Pablo Montoya) in 2003.and just as I dream of racing on this track, this is my first time on a street circuit, so it will be a challenging challenge, ”the 17-year-old Colombian-American driver said at a virtual press conference.
Montoya returned to the competition after an accident in Imola a few weeks ago and is in Monaco preparing for the third round of FRECA, which will take place on May 28 and 29 at the principality’s street circuit.
After the scoring rounds developed in Monza and Imola, Montoya was in first place in the FRECA Rookies Cup and ninth overall, with 20 units.
“We finished the first two rounds of the championship. They are pretty positive, the speed is getting better and better and as a team we are working hard”, said driver of Escudería Telmex Telcel Claro, a hotbed for drivers that aims to open up opportunities for young Latin Americans to access the most prestigious motorsport category in the world.
This championship is ahead of F4 and the FIA certified step up to F1. There are 10 scoring rounds on the circuits that are part of the highest category: Monza, Imola, Italy, Monaco, Le Castellet (France), Zandvoort (Netherlands), Hungaroring (Hungary), Spa Francorchamps (Belgium), Spielberg (Austria), Barcelona (Spain) and Mugello (Italy).
