Escaped from trial – back in cell: tip led to Lego fraudster

Date:

The young Carinthian caused more than half a million euros in damage with Lego fraud – and went to prison for a year and a half. The 26-year-old went into hiding before his second trial. Now the handcuffs clicked into his hiding place.

The fact that, despite serving a three-year prison sentence, he was allowed to leave his cell after serving half his sentence caused widespread astonishment – and anger among his fraud victims. The 26-year-old had more than half a million euros taken from his pockets for Lego blocks that he never delivered. And creditors waited in vain for money.

But the timing of his conditional early release was even more incomprehensible: G. was released exactly five days before the start of a new Lego fraud trial against him. The Carinthian quickly took this opportunity to go into hiding. And again the police had to be on the road.

Police officer raised the alarm
After a few weeks, the hide-and-seek game was over: a police officer from the Klagenfurt Land district had received a tip and immediately alerted her colleagues in the capital. Moments later they handcuffed the 26-year-old in an apartment in Klagenfurt. And so the Lego fraudster went back to jail.
