Migration flow – Numerous minors were captured in Cyprus

Date:

The Cypriot coast guard located three small cutters a few nautical miles east of the island on Tuesday and subsequently picked up 170 migrants. The migrants included 46 minors, 27 of whom were unaccompanied children.

After medical examinations, everyone is housed in two camps.

It was only at the beginning of December that 252 migrants were arrested east of the EU island republic. The people came from Syria or Lebanon.

The registration and reception centers for asylum seekers in Cyprus are overcrowded and are currently being expanded with EU funding.

In terms of population size, Cyprus has received by far the most asylum applications per year in recent years, compared to other EU countries, according to EU statistics.
