Orban remains no – EU politicians must decide on Ukraine

Date:

EU heads of state and government will meet on Thursday and Friday for their last regular summit of the year. It should be about money and the expansion of the alliance through Ukraine and the countries of the Western Balkans. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has once again reiterated his no to talks with Ukraine.

For him there is no reason to negotiate with the country that is at war. As reported, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, sees things differently. She wants at least a decision to start accession negotiations. The country is already tackling corruption and trying to improve the situation for national minorities, she argued.
