Suspects arrested – wine bottles stolen worth almost a million euros

Date:

After a clearly spectacular burglary in a gastronomic hotel in Tyrol two and a half years ago, the handcuffs clicked on two men. At the time, they had stolen beautiful wine bottles worth almost a million euros.

An extensive investigation took place over two years. Now officers from the LKA Tirol, who worked on the case in close cooperation with the Bochum police station, can report a successful search and clarify a burglary in May 2021 at a hotel in the Innsbruck-Land district. “By evaluating seized data from so-called encrypted mobile phones, observation and TÜ measures, it was possible to identify the perpetrators,” the police said.

Two men arrested, one still on the run
Specifically, two suspects, a 53-year-old man from Montenegro and a Bosnian (52), were arrested on the basis of an EU arrest warrant. “The 53-year-old was arrested on Thursday by LKA officials in a joint operation with German officials in Germany,” the director pointed out. Another known perpetrator is currently being sought on an EU arrest warrant. According to the investigators, a transfer of the two arrested persons to the Austrian judicial authorities is planned.

Extremely fine wine bottles stolen
During the crime, the suspects were able to steal several hundred bottles of red wine worth almost seven figures, which were stored in the hotel’s wine cellar. “The wine bottles were very exclusive wines, including from the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti winery, some of which are not available on the open market,” the police explain. It is still unclear where the loot is.
