The pensioner first stoked the wood-burning stove in her home in the Graz region and then went outside to get more firewood. She wouldn’t have been gone even twenty minutes, but the catastrophe had already occurred. Thick clouds of sound were already coming from the house.
Granddaughter called the fire brigade
The 86-year-old’s granddaughter, who lives next door, immediately alerted the fire brigade, and several teams from neighboring communities had to respond as the house was completely engulfed in flames. “Fire out” was reported around 4 p.m.; But the work for the fire brigade lasted until late at night.
The 86-year-old was admitted to LKH Graz with suspected smoke poisoning.
