This Christmas will probably be very special for police officer Stefan (55) from the Tyrolean Oberland. It is not self-evident that he can celebrate the festival with his family. Things almost turned out differently. But the 55-year-old was rescued from extreme distress and has now met his guardian angels.
An emotional reunion recently took place at the Red Cross in Telfs between Stefan and his rescuers: paramedics, emergency physicians and the two courageous first aiders who saved Stefan’s life. Everyone was touched and happy that the police officer is fit again after his hospitalization and treatment and can celebrate a very wonderful Christmas with his family.
Colleagues and nurses respond with presence of mind
This is not a given. Because in the summer Stefan’s life hung by a thread. In July, the 55-year-old Tyrolean is on the cycle path between Hatting and Inzing. Suddenly he collapses – respiratory and circulatory arrest, acute danger to life!
But fate sends two guardian angels on bicycles. Coincidentally, a colleague of Stefan’s and a nurse come by. The duo, trained in first aid, quickly understands the situation and takes action. The police officer and nurse begin chest compressions and alert the rescue team.
Telfs Red Cross team thanks emergency workers
Only a short time later, the emergency doctor and the Telfs Red Cross rescue team arrived at the scene of the accident. They continued the first aid measures seamlessly. “Thanks to the good preparatory work, the patient already showed signs of life again after the first defibrillation shock,” says Red Cross spokesman Daniel Struggl, who praises the courageous action of the first aiders and adds: “The only thing you can do wrong in a situation like this, doing nothing!”
