The Linz public prosecutor has filed a complaint against a former SPÖ councilor from the Linz region, who allegedly blackmailed men with pornographic images of minors on the internet. In all likelihood, the man will be tried in the autumn for serious commercial extortion, fraud and possession of child pornography material, Reinhard Steiner of the prosecutor’s office confirms.
The ex-politician risks up to ten years in prison. In addition to the eleven known victims, there is also a “single-digit range of unknowns” from whom the man is said to have extorted Amazon vouchers worth 300 to 400 euros.
The cause came to light last June. The then alderman is said to have posed as a 15-year-old girl on an online dating service for homosexuals. He sent stolen erotic photos and demanded pornographic photos from his contacts in return. He was blackmailing his victims. A 55-year-old from the Gmunden district, who allegedly sent the 15-year-old photos and then faced a demand for money, got the case underway. Shortly after it became known, the red city councilor gave up all his political positions and also left the party.

The affair also had its own legal ramifications for some of the blackmail victims: after investigation, they were charged with possession of child pornography.
