A holidaymaker from Austria got lost on the Italian island of Elba on Friday. The 60-year-old turned out to have lost his way during a walk. The search for the missing person took hours on the ground and in the air, well into the dark.
The woman gave a sign of life in the afternoon: she contacted her husband that she had become lost during a walk in the southwest of the island in the woods near the village of Fetovaia. The man notified emergency services. Firefighters and rescuers then went in search of the woman. Helicopters and drones were also used.
On the night of Saturday, after hours of searching, then the redeeming news: the 60-year-old was found on a steep terrain about 400 meters from the hiking trail by rescuers who were on the road with sniffer dogs. Her condition was described as good, the newspaper said.
