One million visitors – Styrian sounds conquer the Oktoberfest in America

Date:

It is an extraordinary journey for the Styrian band “Die Junge Weststeirer”, which is currently musically enriching the Oktoberfest in Leavenworth, Washington. The five-member group, which masters the classic Upper Krain style, will perform on one of the three large stages of the beer tent festival.

“This is something very special for all of us,” explains Michael Wagner, the band’s singer and guitarist. “For some of us it is even our first flight. It was always a dream to perform in the US. And now we are playing at one of the biggest Oktoberfests here in the country!” One million visitors are expected.

Obstacle with instrument transport
In addition to the fun of the upcoming performances, there are also practical challenges. “It wasn’t easy to organize everything,” says the 34-year-old. “From obtaining artist visas, which cost $200 per person, to arranging transportation for our instruments, there were many hurdles. But now everything is in place and we are ready for the big performance.” The three-day Oktoberfest attracts visitors from all over the region and offers a varied program on three stages.

Leavenworth itself is a small town in the heart of Washington State known as the “Bavarian Village.” The restaurant’s menus include Kaiserschmarrn, bratwurst, potato salad, schnitzel and white sausage.

The Oktoberfest, which is celebrated here for three weeks, is one of the largest of its kind in the US and provides a perfect stage for Styrian musicians.
