Extensive damage – room fire in Graz: cats rescued

There was a room fire in Graz-Eggenberg on Friday afternoon. Thanks to smoke detectors, the residents were able to leave the apartment in time. However, two cats remained behind – and were rescued by the Graz fire brigade.

A column of smoke above a residential building caused a commotion in Graz-Eggenberg on Friday afternoon. A fire broke out in an attic apartment.

The residents were warned in time by smoke detectors and were able to leave the apartment. A woman and two children were provided first aid by the fire brigade and then handed over to the Red Cross. However, two cats remained behind.

Graz’s professional fire brigade was quickly on the scene: the emergency services were able to quickly fight the fire and found the cats hiding under a sofa.

The damage caused by the fire is estimated at tens of thousands of euros. The cause of the fire is the subject of a police investigation.
