A youth gang that allegedly committed several burglaries in shops in Vienna and Lower Austria has now been arrested by the police. The researchers call the suspects ‘intensive perpetrators’. Shocking: the youngest gang member is only eleven years old!
The other suspects are already in custody. It concerns three boys aged 18, 16 and 15. Part of the gang was arrested on November 17 during a burglary in Vienna-Leopoldstadt.
Broken into a supermarket together
The 15-year-old Syrian and an 18-year-old – his nationality is unclear – fell into the net of investigators after smashing the window of the supermarket’s entrance door and then taking e-scooters, food and lighters, police reported on Friday.
The youngest perpetrator is only eleven years old
With the help of the statements of the two young people, the Vienna State Criminal Investigation Department was able to determine the identity of two other suspected perpetrators. These are the eleven-year-old and the sixteen-year-old, both of whom are also from Syria.
Burglary video found on cell phone
Investigators then found a video on a seized mobile phone showing the four breaking into a bicycle shop, also in Leopoldstadt, the day before November 17. The officers confiscated the loot. A stolen bicycle was found in an acquaintance’s apartment and was still missing.
Thefts also in Lower Austria
During the investigation it turned out that the four were also active in the Korneuburg district in Lower Austria and were already being investigated there for burglaries and arson. The value of the stolen items is approximately 10,000 euros.
