On Friday morning, a fire broke out in a single-family home in Lannach, Styria (Deutschlandsberg district). No one was injured. However, there was significant property damage.
The fire probably broke out on the terrace around 1 a.m. The fire brigades of Lannach, Blumegg, Stainz, St. Josef, Hötschdorf, Oisnitz-Tobisegg, Mooskirchen and the fire brigade of the Magna company, deployed with 78 men and 16 vehicles, extinguished the fire. No one was injured.
Hot ash is believed to have started the fire
The investigation into the cause of the fire was carried out by agents of the National Criminal Investigation Department in collaboration with an expert. A technical cause of the fire could be ruled out. Further investigation revealed that the homeowner may have placed a paper bag containing allegedly extinguished ash from a furnace on a plastic container on the patio Thursday afternoon. Apparently there were still embers in the ashes, which set the paper bag and then the plastic container on fire. The fire then spread to the facade and roof structure of the house. The material damage caused is expected to amount to approximately 300,000 euros.
