Door thrown away – toilet building blown up by unknown people in Vienna

Previously unknown people reportedly blew up a public toilet building in Vienna-Donaustadt with fireworks this weekend. In addition, a litter box belonging to the street service of the city of Vienna in Favoriten was also reportedly blown up with fireworks. One of the areas affected by the material damage was a toilet facility near the Hirschstetten swimming pond on Bibernellweg. The perpetrators had almost completely destroyed the facility. According to Vienna police, the metal door was thrown about 25 meters away from the building by the pressure wave.

The toilet facility had to be closed
A witness who heard two loud bangs during the night called the police when he noticed the damage. The professional fire brigade then checked the building for any risk of collapse. The facility had to be closed.

There was also further serious material damage to the Favoritener Gewerbering. There, unknown perpetrators blew up a litter box belonging to the road service of the city of Vienna. However, no remains of the pyrotechnic bodies could be found at the scene.

The police warn against illegal fireworks
With regard to New Year’s Eve, the police expressly warns against the use of unauthorized fireworks and the improper use of New Year’s Eve fireworks. “If the provisions of the Pyrotechnics Act are violated, the user, in addition to possible criminal consequences, will face administrative fines of up to 3,600 euros,” the director explained on Monday.

An investigation has been launched into the unknown perpetrators.
