About 2.4 million households in Austria put up a Christmas tree during the Christmas period, 85 percent of which come from local forests. But in addition to the spruce and fir trees, some uninvited guests also enter the house – up to 25,000 creepy crawlies per tree! An expert from the Federal Forest Research Center explains what this means for our living rooms.
The most popular Christmas tree species among Austrians are the Nordmann spruce (90 percent), the blue spruce (five percent) and the Colorado, Felsengebirge and Nobilis spruce, which share the remaining five percent. Those who love traditions will not miss the opportunity to festively decorate the Christmas tree and place the presents under it on Christmas Eve.
