The Catholic Church has long refused to bless homosexual couples – Viennese cathedral priest Toni Faber did so anyway. The prominent priest and like-minded person is now right. Because Pope Francis has now allowed the blessing – under precisely defined conditions.
This is evident from a letter that the Vatican’s religious authority published on Monday. According to the official German translation, it speaks of the “possibility of blessing couples in irregular situations and couples of the same sex.”
The text emphasizes that confusion with marriage must be excluded. The blessing may also not be said in the context of a church service.
