Violation of the law – head of health authorities in Beijing fired

Date:

The head of health authorities in Beijing was fired on Wednesday. Yu Luming is charged with “serious violations of discipline and the law”. Hundreds of people in Beijing have been infected with the ommicron variant of the corona virus since the end of April. Despite quarantine centers, the increase has not yet stopped.

Now the head of the health commission in the Chinese capital has to leave his post, state news agency Xinhua reported on Wednesday. He is alleged to have broken discipline and the law and is facing a disciplinary investigation. Details of the allegations were not given.

During the corona pandemic, China repeatedly relied on very strict measures, keeping the number of infections relatively low for a long time. Things changed when the Omicron variant broke out. The center of the infections was initially Shanghai, after which the city with its 25 million inhabitants was closed for several weeks at the beginning of April.

public life limited
In other Chinese cities, public life is still severely restricted. In Beijing, many parks, restaurants, schools and shops are closed. Public transport has been reduced and many people have to work from home. Citizens are increasingly expressing their dissatisfaction, for example in videos that they put online.
