A study concluded that the mental health of children and young people in Tyrol is not in the best of places. The state of Tyrol, together with the education directorate and child and adolescent psychiatry, is on a mental rescue mission. Kathrin Sevecke, director of child and adolescent psychiatry in Hall, provides insights.

They cut themselves. They vomit because they don’t want to gain weight. They are sad, but in a different way: for weeks and cannot get out of bed. They have anxiety and panic attacks, sometimes even ‘tired with thoughts of life’. And: They are not yet adults. The Covid research has revealed one thing: our children and young people are under severe psychological pressure. Not all, but a lot. And because the saying ‘An Indian knows no pain’ has never helped anyone get out of depression, the country is deploying heavy artillery – in the form of a pilot project.
