Before the Olympics, the French Minister of Sport swam in the Seine

Date:

To prove that the water of the Seine in Paris is clean enough almost two weeks before the start of the Summer Olympics, French Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra took a dip in the capital’s river in front of television cameras on Saturday.

As the footage shows, the former professional tennis player slipped while boarding. Oudéa-Castéra was swimming not far from Pont Alexandre III, where the triathlon and open water swimming competitions take place.

The city of Paris announced earlier on Friday that the current water quality of the Seine would be sufficient to host the competitions planned there. According to the new analysis of the city’s water quality, the city met the regulations for hosting Olympic competitions on six of the past seven days measured. More than 80 percent of the water analyses met the limit values.

The mayor also wants to jump into the Seine
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo plans to jump into the Seine on July 17, if water quality permits. She originally planned to jump into the expensively cleaned river on June 23, but water test results were too poor.

As French President Emmanuel Macron’s entourage said in June, the head of state also wants to swim in the Seine before the start of the Games on July 26.
