The video-monitored private parking lot in front of the shopping center in Bad Hall (Upper Austria) is causing a stir in the spa town. Even after a short store visit, customers are threatened with a lawsuit for burglary. The company does not respond to complaints. The mayor speaks of modern robber barons.
For many Bad Hall residents, a recent visit to the shopping center near the old train station ended with unpleasant surprises. A few days after the Christmas shopping season, the threat of a property infringement lawsuit came to the house. Between 55 and 300 euros must be paid because the time spent in the private parking is supposedly too long. The purchase often only took a few minutes. Objections came to nothing.
Company is located at diving station
The German operator of the parking lot cannot be reached by telephone. Email questions remain unanswered, causing angry customers to trigger a flood of complaints to stores, the police and the city office.
The community also threatened punishment
Mayor Bernhard Ruf (VP) has his hands tied because it is private property. He suspects that the license plate recognition system in the video surveillance system introduced this year is defective. ‘It resembles modern robber baronism. Our community car was only parked for a short time and now we had to pay. I have contacted the administrator to get the problems under control, and that is the only thing I can do.”
FP municipal councilor Mario Gubesch recommends taking a close look at the letters: “Anyone who files a lawsuit must prove his guilt. If there is only one photo of the entrance and no photo of the exit, I would not take the letter seriously.”
